Snow & Serenity
Perched at over 13,000 feet above sea level, Sela Pass is one of the highest motorable roads in India and a lifeline connecting Tawang with the rest of Arunachal Pradesh. For most of the year, the pass is blanketed in snow, transforming it into a magical white paradise.
At its center lies the breathtaking Sela Lake , a glacial beauty that changes color with the sky — from deep blue on sunny days to a silvery sheen under winter clouds. The area is dotted with smaller lakes, believed by locals to be sacred, adding to the pass’s spiritual charm.
Travelers are greeted by rows of fluttering prayer flags, icy winds, and panoramic views of the Eastern Himalayas. The pass is accessible year-round, but October to April offers the most enchanting snowy landscapes. However, winter travelers should be prepared for freezing temperatures and possible road closures due to heavy snow.
Sela Pass isn’t just a stop on the way to Tawang — it’s a moment where you feel on top of the world, surrounded by snow, silence, and sheer beauty
